It’s Thursday night. And though I love spending time with you, I won’t be writing over the weekend. I’m shutting ‘er down. It’s Easter. The day of the best news of our lives. And I want to pay attention.

“O LORD my God, I called to you for help and you healed me…

You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothes me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent.

O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever.” ~ Psalm 30:2, 11-12

This familiar chapter was part of the reading last week. But it hit me different this time, knowing Easter’s around the corner. I’ve always thought of this verse in terms of what God can do for me. He can replace my grief with happiness, exchange the yuck for something amazing. But, against the backdrop of Easter, it looks a little different.

You see, I think there’s so much more to this than God just making sure I’m having a good day. Our healing meant God’s death. In fact, the same day our wailing turned to dancing, God’s heart broke while all of heaven wept. And the flood of Divine tears became the blood bath needed to bring the healing we’d been crying for. While God wore sackcloth, we were given a second chance.

“I called to you for help and you healed me … I will give you thanks forever.”

Hmmmm … Yes.
