I have a barely restrained rebellious streak. You know, the kind that hears the words “You can’t do that” and retaliates with a feisty “You wanna bet????” I keep my strong-willed, straying self under wraps through one simple, yet critical safeguard:
Authentic time with God and His words.
I know. Sounds cliche. Unfortunately, I’ve had to learn this gem the hard way. I’m always just a few small decisions away from disaster. And, so, when I completed a Bible study on Isaiah a couple weeks ago, I felt some urgency to determine my next spiritual move.
Monday, while nursing an early morning cup of coffee, two ideas came to mind:
* Cover the Bible in a year, give or take (I did this a few years ago and loved it. Mostly.)
* Read Ezekial.
Ezekial? Really? Bad coffee or a Divine nudge? Weird either way.
I decided to read the Bible in a year. Chronologically, not front to back. Good news is I’ll eventually end up in Ezekial. Bases covered.
Maybe you’re one of those people who have it all together. I’m sorry we won’t be able to be friends. If you’re like me, however, and struggle to live an authentic Jesus-following, cliff-edge life, maybe you should join me?
Each SUNDAY I’ll post seven slices of reading for the following seven days of the week. Thus, Seven4Seven. Occasionally I’ll post additional thoughts or questions for discussion. Comments are always welcome.
We begin Monday, November 17th. If you need a little help remembering, sign up for the email notification in the sidebar OR just send me an email at email@example.com.
Bet you CAN’T do it (nothing like a little trash-talk to get you going)…
Sorry, I’ll have to wait until January to start this so it can be an even year. JK. Count me in. 🙂
Great idea Michele. I read the bible through in a year and it seemed a bit rushed to me but I like your idea of reading it chronologically (sp?) So I’m game. My spritual life can always use a jump start it seems.
