Reading a list of rules (a.k.a. Deuteronomy) is tough for me. Not only does my spirit wrestle against the restrictions, I also start to feel like a weight has been draped around my neck, each “Do” and “Don’t” heavy with reminders of my failings and how I’ll never measure up.
I think that’s the point, really. At least in part. God knows that the only way for me to experience the full expression of freedom bought in Jesus is to sit so entrenched in my own slavery that I can’t see a way out. Then, when I realize (fantastic revelation!) that Jesus was/is/will be the key to loosing my chains, I end up falling all over myself in relief.
“But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall.” ~ Malachi 4:2
Be neither fearful nor intimidated. You don’t measure up. Neither do I. However, my friend, your release has already been arranged.
