Seven4Seven: Week 13

Feb 9, 2009

Joshua is a good’un. Especially the first 5 or 6 chapters. My biblical pages are so marked up it looks like refrigerator artwork.

In ORANGE highlighter, I’ve marked:

  • “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous…” (Joshua 1:5-6)
  • “Be strong and very courageous…” (Joshua 1:7)
  • “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
  • (appears to be a theme here…)

In BLUE (which just happens to be my color):

  • “Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before.” (Joshua 3:4; dated 2/7/06)
  • “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you.” (Joshua 3:5; dated 1/18/05)

I went ADHD with the fat YELLOW:

  • “Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest…” (Joshua 2:15)
  • “The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood on dry ground…crossing on dry ground…” (Joshua 3:17)
  • “No sooner had they set their feet on the dry ground than the waters of the Jordan returned to their place and ran at flood stage as before.” (Joshua 4:18; think about this more than one sec and you’ll see how cool it really is)
  • “Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites again.” (Joshua 5:2; Hmmm … not sure what I was thinking here? Bad day???)
  • “The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land…that year they at the produce of Canaan.” (Joshua 5:12)
  • “Do not give a war cry, do not raise your voices, do not say a word until the day I tell you to shout. Then shout!” (Joshua 6:10)
  • “At this the hearts of the people melted and became like water.” (Joshua 7:5)

I highlight, underline and (this is important to me) I mark dates. So a year or two from now when I look back over the journey, I see footprints of where I’ve been. Do you write in your Bible? I’m officially giving you permission. And a little derriere kick. Go for it. Make your Bible a log of your journey, and wait and see what happens.

  • Day 85 (Monday): Joshua 12-15
  • Day 86: Joshua 16-18
  • Day 87: Joshua 19-21
  • Day 88: Joshua 22-24
  • Day 89: Judges 1-2
  • Day 90: Judges 3-5
  • Day 91: Judges 6-7
