I’m excited, tempted enough to jump ahead to the end of this week’s reading. One of my fave books of the Bible is on the roster. If you haven’t read Ruth all the way through, you’re in for a sweet surprise. It’s risky, romantic, and full of the kind of love we long for.
One suggestion? There’s a truckload of good stuff in the book of Ruth. Don’t rush it. Maybe split up the chapters and read in different sittings or spread it out among the other days. Whatever you do, make sure you don’t skip a single word. Bathe in it, appreciate the beauty, and relish this poignant allegory of God’s redemptive love for you. Keep it fresh and real, and let your heart be moved.
A teaser:
Boaz replied, ‘I’ve been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband–how you left you father and mother and your homeland and came to live with a people you did not know before. May the LORD repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge. ~Ruth 2:11-12
