Update From the Writing Cave

Nov 19, 2009

It’s November 19, which means I’m neck deep in NaNoWriMo. For those who missed my post at the beginning of this month, NaNoWriMo = MeNoBlogO. (the link will fill in the gaps)

I haven’t been blogging. But I HAVE been writing, 30,000 words so far and counting.

Can I just say, it feels like heaven itself to be able to do something I love so much.

Many of you have asked me what I’m writing. Most NaNoWriMo participants write a novel in the month. And, yes, I am working on a novel. Can’t tell you about it quite yet, but the story has captivated my heart. On top of the novel writing, however, I’m also working on a non-fiction book I started long before November. It’s my priority, and right now the first draft of the proposal is done. I’m sure there will be multiple edits, but it feels good to have the working doc in hand. My next to-do is to write two or three sample chapters. A stack of books and articles are waiting for me to read, necessary for research before I begin to write those chapters.

I hope to have both the complete proposal draft and my 50,000 words of my novel finished by the end of November. Somewhat ambitious considering family arrives on Monday to celebrate Thanksgiving. But that’s what I’m shooting for. And even if it doesn’t all get done, I’ll be much further ahead than I was in October.

That’s it. My update from the writing cave. Tomorrow I’m leaving for a few days of unplugged solitude in a mountain cabin. I’m going squeeze in as much research and writing is as I can stand, but will also do a fair share of sleeping and being and praying.

So, how have you been?
