For nearly 10 years I’ve experienced both the ups and the downs of being a part of one of society’s fastest growing populations: the Blended Family. Although being in a blended family wasn’t my original dream (and at times I thought I was living a nightmare!), I wouldn’t trade what I’ve learned for the world. Not only do I have a greater compassion toward those who have a less-than-ideal family situation, I’ve learned about commitment, deepening family relationships, how to navigate conflict, and the risks and ultimate rewards of unconditional love.
A few months ago Focus on the Family approached me to be on a stepmom panel as part of a series of broadcasts on the joys and struggles of being a stepmom. It’s raw, authentic and will hopefully speak hope and presence to the many stepmoms who struggle with their role. The series airs this week (Monday, November 15 – Wednesday, November 17), beginning today. I’ll be appearing on both Monday and Tuesday’s program. Tuesday and Wednesday will include in-depth interviews with authors Ron Deal and Laura Petherbridge. I sat in the studio for the taping of their program and it was fabulous. You won’t want to miss it.
One more thing: If you know a stepmom, please share this information along with your own word of encouragement. Simply acknowledging her presence and the difficulty of their role will make her day!
